董福祥是西北近代史上一位颇具影响的人物。他于同治初年,揭竿而起,投入反清斗争,其部属是当时西北义军中一支影响较大的反清力量。后来,在清军的重兵围剿下,他兵败投清。在镇压陕甘回民起义中,深为左棠所倚重。其后又率部出关,因收复新疆有功,被清廷擢为提督,赐号阿尔杭阿巴图鲁。1900年,庚子事发,国难迭起,董福样奉令率部协助义和团抗击八国联军。及清廷纳款,和议告成,在列强和清廷内部压力下,他被褫职锢于家,结束了军旅生涯。董福祥之戎马一生,鲜明地折射出了他所处时代的影子。尤其是从反清投清这一重大转折,对当时震憾西北的回民起义,乃至后来西北政局和军界,产生了重大影响。本文拟就董福祥投清及其影响,作一简略述论。 Dong Fuxiang is an influential figure in the history of Northwest China.
