桂东县农业局、科委和科协,从1984年开始设计稻田养鱼高产技术方案,由一个点一亩试验田搞起,去年全县已推广到322亩。效益非常明显。据验收的11.28亩早稻田,亩产稻谷485.5公斤。比对照田增产7.94%;亩产鲜鱼22.38公斤,加上鱼种收入,渔业产值118.32元。验收中稻12.79亩,亩产稻谷650.75公斤,比对照田增产10.53%;亩产鲜鱼28.52公斤,加上鱼种收入,亩平248元。采用稻田养鱼新技术比单纯种稻经济效益提高1—2倍以上,比传统的稻田养鱼方法,亩平渔业产值要增加3—4倍。为此,桂东县农村广大群众纷纷要求推广稻鱼技术,据该县农业局统计,全县今年可推广到4000亩。桂东县稻鱼高产技术的作法主要有三个
