In the past few years, North American wood exports to Asia have increased their profitability for forest farmers in the northwestern United States and British Columbia and have hit the country’s real wood industry. According to “North American Wood Fiber Review” (“NAWFR”) reported that the first quarter of 2014, North American wood exports increased 14% over the first quarter of 2013, an increase of 30% over the first quarter of 2012. About 53% of North American exports are from northwestern United States, 41% from BC, Canada and the rest from Alaska, California and the southern United States. A total of nine ports on the west coast of the United States are engaged in the shipment of bulk logs.
