长安华严寺作为华严宗的祖庭,其历史地位和研究价值都是非常重要的。华严寺的现状与以往寺院规模的辉煌相比萧条荒落,仅剩两窿古塔。杜顺禅师塔和清凉国师塔仍庄严屹立,两塔一大一小,一高一低,杜顺塔在东,清凉国师塔在西,间距不过四十米,相互辉映。长安华严寺系唐长安城南樊川八大寺之一,北宋后渐趋荒落,明嘉靖三十四年(1556年),关中大地震,寺院毁坏严重,后虽经修葺,寺院的规模已无法与旧时相比。留给我们的只有这饱经沧桑的两座古塔,向人们昭示着曾经辉煌的历史。
