爱伦·坡的诗歌和小说作品大都呈现出恐怖的风格,其作品不仅充斥着各种可怕的意象,曲折离奇的死亡情节,还对人的精神世界的各种丑恶现象进行了描述和思考。其作品最突出的美学思考即人性之恶、知识之恶和死亡之美,但是作者对于丑与恶的描述恰恰源于他对于纯粹的精神之美的追求,这种追求突破了当时主流的理性思考。如果从坡的独特经历与当时的历史背景来看,坡审丑的美学尝试无疑是超前的,具有强烈的现实意义。
Allan Poe’s poems and novels mostly show a horrible style.
