Researchers at the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA, Pierrelatte) have patented a process for recovering engine oil that uses supercritical carbon dioxide and ceramic ultrafiltration membranes to remove impurities. Tests show that the technology can be recycled 95% (volume fraction) of available oil, waste lubricating oil containing a variety of metals such as zinc, chromium and iron removal rate of 90%
