1937年7月7日抗日的硝烟弥漫,坚持抗战的中国共产党、社会进步团体、爱国人士遭到日本帝国主义的迫害,我国的书籍出版受到沉重的打击,很多优秀的书籍在战乱中消失殆尽,加上物质匮乏使书籍出版事业举步维艰。20世纪20年代前后,我国书籍设计进入到一个新的阶段,在这一时期我国历史发生了翻天覆地的变化,辛亥革命、“五四运动”、“新文化运动”、“七七事变”在这个动乱的时期各种思想能够充分展示自己的优越性,新旧文化的交替给书籍设计带来了革新的动力也赋予了书籍设计新的生命力。
