Widely distributed herpes viruses have received special attention recently, as these DNA-containing viruses have been identified as the cause of many diseases. The most common in humans are the human herpesvirus, shingles-varicella and cytomegalovirus. The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a recently discovered human herpesvirus linked to three diseases: Burkitt’s lymphoma (African lymphomas or non-leukemias), nasopharyngeal carcinoma and infectious mononuclear Cytopenia. Here is a brief account of EBV studies over the past seven years. African Lymphomas Burkitt noted the lymphosarcoma in South African children in 1958 and was characterized by a high incidence of the disease in some areas, accounting for more than 50% of the tumors in children, a sudden increase in morbidity after 2 years of age,
