The establishment of Air Macau on Sept．13，1994 and the opening of Macau International Airport on Nov．9，199b have released Macau from its long－term dependency on Hong Kong for air transport and brought about rapid development in its civil aviation industry。Macau residents feel proud of the fact that they are benefiting from the comfort and convenience offered by their own airline and airport.Air Macan is the only airline in paean，conducting air transport and associated operations．It has 4 A321s and 3 A320s，mainly operating on regional routes．In 1998，itcarriedl，137，700passengers and 14，967 ton ofcargo．Inthepast three years since its opening，Macau Internatlonal Airport has enjoyed progressive growth In both passenger and cafgo traffic．It handled 2，214，487 passengers and 65，169 ton of cargo in 1998，representing increases of 13，4％and 43．1％respectively over the figures of1997，and its mail traffic reached 125，051 kilograms．
