The annual Maria Mosi Cabot Award is the oldest international journalism award. As of last year, it has conducted 45 award ceremonies, awarding a total of 159 gold medals and 59 reward certificates to journalists in 21 countries, but the winners are limited to the press in the Americas. This news prize, sponsored by the Boston family Gedele Ravel Cabot, was set up to honor his deceased wife, Maria Mos Capat. The proposal to set this prize was made by his son, John Moss Cabot. John was a diplomat at the U.S. Foreign Ministry at that time, and has served as envoys in many Latin American countries. Winners are selected by the Columbia University School of Journalism. The criteria for inclusion in the Cabot award are said to be “an important contribution to the friendship between the peoples of the Americas and the nation.” In fact, there was not a single country in Latin America at that time, and no single department was not founded on it
