1982 BRRI (Bangladesh Rice Research Institute) initiated a collaborative study with IRRI (International Rice Research Institute) on hybrid rice. The successful hybrid rice production relies on outcrossing of a large number of cytoplasmic male sterile lines. We have studied the field yield of hybrid seeds formed by the cytoplasmic male sterility line v_ (20) A and its maintainer line u_ (20) B (A_ (20) B is a pollen source). Twenty five 25-day-old V20B seedlings were transplanted in a single seedling per transplanted plant on five rows 20 cm apart and 20 cm apart.
