1931年秋,郑振铎从上海商务印书馆编译所离职北上,到北平的燕京和清华二个大学的中文系担任教授,直至1935年春因受到顽固势力的排挤和打击离开北平。在这三年多时间内,他成为北方进步文化界的中心人物之一,作出了重要的贡献,受到广大青年学生和知识界的拥戴。在个人著述方面,短短的三年内,他完成和出版了他在学术方面的代表著作《插图本中国文学史》,出版了论文集《中国文学论集》、《疴瘘集》,创作了小说集 In the autumn of 1931, Zheng Zhenduo compiled from the Shanghai Commercial Press and went northward to the Chinese Department of Yanjing and Tsinghua University in Peiping as professors until the spring of 1935 left Beiping by the outdone and blow of the die-hards.
