自由女神像和世贸中心大厦是大多数中国人对美国最直接的感官印象,尤其是那座存在和不存在都“改变了曼哈顿天空”的钢结构玻璃大厦及其所代表的纽约城市景观,是中国某些城市管理者和政府官员理想中的现代化大都市的完美样板。这些人对现代化城市景观的认识停留在大厦的楼层数量和海拔高度上,结果无论北京的京广、国贸,上海的金茂,还是广州的中信广场,深圳的地王大厦,看上去都有一点大同小异。
