A review of the issues discussed at the 35th Annual Meeting since the founding of the International Institute of Applied Systems (IIASA) was presented. Founded in 1972, an international research organization of world-renowned scientists from various countries is devoted to studying global change from the aspects of environment, economy, technology and society, and providing valuable models and methods for decision-making bodies and scientific communities. At present, he is engaged in more than 200 studies in three aspects: environment and resources, population and society, energy and technology. This annual meeting aims to extensively discuss the concept of sustainable and equitable development and how to achieve it. The meeting concluded that in the 21st century, the world faces two basic challenges: improving the poverty status of the poorest 1 billion people in the world and protecting the common property of all mankind, including the atmosphere, the oceans, the water cycle and biological diversity. The meeting proposed an agenda to improve human and social capital and protect natural capital; and more actively discussed possible measures to address social and environmental issues.
