This new series is aimed at the development frontiers of world science and technology, and it will provide the newest research progress and important research findings in intelligent science and technology in China for readers all over the world in the form of English. Most of the authors of the series are academicians from the Chinese Academy of Science and Chinese Academy of Engineering, Cheung Kong Scholars, the winners of the National Outstanding Youth Foundation, and so on. At present, 15 selected subjects for the first part of this series have been listed in “Project for Translation and Publication of Chinese Cultural Works”.
The first three books to be published this time include, Flexible Manipulators: Modeling, Analysis and Optimum Designs, New Advances in Intelligence and Security Informatics and Service Science, Management and Engineering, written by Feiyue Wang, the leading scholar from the International Intelligent Control Field.
To publish English original books on Science and Technology by cooperating with an internationally famous science and technology publisher is an “opening-up” initiated by Zhejiang University Press. This cooperation with Elsevier is another large publication project, following the Series in “Advanced Topics in Science and Technology in China” first published in 2006, which once again consolidated the bridgehead status of Zhejiang University Press, which concentrates on the co-publication of Chinese science and technology originals. This project will make good use of the publishing resources and advantages of both parties (Elsevier and ZUP) by sharing risks and profits, and trying to be the best in the field of International Intelligent Engineering and Technology.
As one of the best academic publishing houses in China, relying on the academic background of its Alma Mater ― Zhejiang University, Zhejiang University Press has been actively implementing collaborations with scientific research institutions at national level and excellent talents in colleges and universities, and has developed monograph series based on the predominant disciplines and predominant research groups at home and abroad. Through international co-publications, Zhejiang University Press has not only gathered superior resources at home and abroad, but trained international editing and type-setting teams. What is more important is that it has strengthened the international influence of Chinese academic publications, and has promoted the exchange and cooperation of academics worldwide. The books published this time will enter into mainstream selling channels via Elsevier’s powerful global sales network and will be collected by world-known academic libraries. Meanwhile, its newly developed “Insights e-book and print-on-demand system” will be available online. And the e-books will be sold on “ScienceDirect” which can be accessed by 11 million scientists. In addition, readers can also purchase via the website of Elsevierdirect.com or from other third parties. The Reed Elsevier Group is the global largest scientific and medical information publisher, ranked first among world publishing enterprises in 2011, and it is also the publisher which has successfully made the transformation from paper publication to digital publication. It has unique advantages in research level on science and technology publications and information services, and it has won a good reputation in the global science and technology field, with more than 1 million people using its books and e-books.
Chinese Collection of Ritual Studies (350 volumes)
Publishing period: From 2012 to 2018, 30-50 volumes each year
"Rite" is the core concept of Chinese culture. The collection refers to the work of collecting and sorting; for the first time, a classified compilation of ritual literature from huge collections of Chinese ritual studies in libraries both at home and abroad, which reflects ritual categories, structure and thought, while discarding fallacies and retaining truth, with careful annotation and strict proofreading.
It is a comprehensive library of ritual studies, including a volume of ritual studies, ritual etiquette, ritual gifts, ritual systems, ritual customs, ritual music, ritual courtesy, family rites and non-secular rites (including traditional volumes of both Taoist rites and Buddhist rites). The collection includes about 350 volumes, 2800 kinds of works collected as planned, and 140 million Chinese characters. It is a large-scale reorganization and publication of Chinese culture with the starting point being, once again, important Chinese cultural classics such as Buddhist Sutras, Taoist Collection, Confucian Collection and Zihai, and so on. There is no doubt that it fills the gaps regarding literature compilation, reorganization, annotation and proofreading and research concerning ritual studies.
Moral Teaching of Rites (2 volumes)
As a representative of traditional Chinese culture, The Book of Rites is quite difficult to read. Therefore, since the Han Dynasty, there always have been annotations of this book and it has become quite popular in the Qing Dynasty especially. The Moral Teaching of Rites, written by Bin Zhu, adopts the outstanding points of others and has higher academic standards. However, there are many careless proofreading mistakes, and Wen Zhuoshen’ s corrected edition has scrupulously checked the original, as well as the annotated ones, and has corrected the errors; therefore, it is the most complete and near-perfect edition to date. History of Confucianism in the 20th Century

The author arranges a large amount of information about Confucianism from 1990 to present and the book objectively, fairly and clearly describes the course and trend of the development of Confucianism in the 20th century.
Research on Ancient Chinese Folk Stories (6 volumes)
As an important part of traditional Chinese culture, ancient Chinese folklore contains the unique thoughts and spiritual values of the Chinese and reflects the living conditions, cultural psychology, and customs and habits of the Chinese.
This series is the first academic masterwork that explains the historical condition and development track of folktales in China and is also the first folktales series that has been wholly completed by compiling and recording the ancient Chinese documents, and it took almost twenty years to complete. Besides collecting and recording the ancient legends, it also offers theoretical interpretations of various stories in the book and provides a valuable reference for understanding these stories, the significance of the genre, and the historical process of the form. The series provides two methods for sources retrieval: a story subject index and a story type index, making comparisons and research of folktales more convenient; thus,it promotes academic communication with the rest of the world. This series is separated into six volumes chronologically .
