The problem is to develop a cheap disc digital information recorder. It can be read directly after writing and can be recorded in a normal room rather than in an absolute clean room where dust is normally required. Discs recorded by laser are a solution to the above problems. This disc has its own internal “clean room.” The digital data that one disc can record is the same as that recorded with 25 tapes at a density of 6250 bits per inch
