This paper discusses in detail the low copper content associated with rejects produced by the Mitsubishi continuous copper smelting and blowing process, with an emphasis on those important stages of high efficiency smelting and slag depletion, and in particular, minimizing copper loss in the slag Design Features and Production Practice. When producing matte, slag copper is generally considered to be directly related to the grade of matte. Most other smelting processes produce only 30% to 63% copper matte, some of which require further treatment of the reject to achieve satisfactory copper recovery. In contrast, Mitsubishi processes typically control the matte grade in the range of 67% to 69% while maintaining copper losses in the reject at about 0.6%.
