《毛诗序》有相对一致的解释思路,十五国《风》、大小《雅》各部分的《序》表现出一定的系统性,相邻的《序》文也往往有一定的关联度,则其很可能成型于一人之手。三家《诗》本无序、四家《诗》解说有不少歧异,说明《毛诗序》非出于诗人、国史、周之乐官、孔子、子夏。先秦时期虽也有以政治教化、伦理道德解《诗》的趋向,但尚未成为普遍原则。《毛诗序》与三家《诗》皆以政治教化、伦理道德解《诗》,说明它们是同一时代的选择。而《毛诗序》比三家《诗》有更浓厚的政治教化的意味,则《毛诗序》晚于三家《诗》的创立。三家《诗》的创立在高后至文帝时,结合《序》《传》关系、《序》的资料来源,可以断定《毛诗序》的成型在景帝前元二年至中元五年间。
