The changes of c-fos mRNA in the hippocampus of rats induced by kenacin (KA) during acute phase (one day after KA injection) and seizures (15 days after KA injection) were analyzed by Northern blotting. The results showed that KA induced a significant increase of c-fos mRNA in hippocampus during acute convulsions, and the increased level correlated with the severity of convulsions. However, c-fos mRNA levels in hippocampus were significantly down-regulated during KA.
