High Performance Computer (HPC) technology is the most widely used system in the petroleum industry.In order to know and simulate several kilometers of geological structure underground, itneeds to collect a large amount of data using earthquake wave reflection and carry out concentratedcalculation and imitation. After calculation, it also needs to transfer to intuitive and visual graphic representationsthat allow analysis of the data and provide reference for oil and gas borehole locations.On July16, 2009, HPCSC and BGP signed a cooperation memorandum at the fifth session of theCESA-HPCSC (High Performance Computer Standardization Committee of Chinese Electronics StandardizationAssociation). The two parties will plan to promote HPC industry standardization in domesticpetroleum exploration and prepare the first HPC industry application standard.BGP is China National Petroleum’s largest user of HPC, and will propose to formulate a earthquake
