The study established a single animal model of Bacteroides fragilis anaerobic infection in rabbit maxillary sinus and observed its morphology and ultrastructure. Twenty-one New Zealand white rabbits were used as the experimental group to occlude the maxillary ostium on one side. One ml culture broth containing Bacteroides fragilis NCTC9343 (10-6 colonies) was inoculated into the closed maxillary sinus Inside. Animals were sacrificed 5 days (n = 2), 2 weeks (n = 2), 3 weeks (n = 9) and 4 weeks (n = 8) after inoculation. The other two animals were inoculated with the same amount of Bacteroides fragilis, but did not block the maxillary ostium as a control group.
