GM’s locomotive manufacturing group (GMLG) introduced a redesigned BL20-2 diesel engine with a power rating of 2,000 horsepower (1492kW) to meet the needs of feeder and secondary railway operations. Compared with prototypes GP7 and Compared with GP9 locomotive, the fuel consumption at load will be improved by 18% and the maintenance interval will exceed 100 days. GM has already produced three prototypes of such locomotives.
