中国科学院院士袁翰青教授,是我国著名的有机化学家和化学史家,也是中国现代科学事业杰出的组织领导者。他早年从事有机化学研究和高等化学教育工作。曾发现联苯衍生物的变旋作用,而受到国际化学界的重视。他于本世纪50年代初,开始主治中国化学史,并从事科普工作和科普创作,成果卓著。先后发表论文及科普文章一百余篇,化学史专著两部,化学著作和科普著作六部,译著两部。1956年始,他领导创建中国科学情报研究所,进行了开拓性工作,是我国科技情报事业的主要奠基人。在40年代和50年代初。他还曾亲自主持筹建了甘肃科学教育馆,北京商务印书馆,高等教育出版社,中国科学院西北分院等。他毕生献身科学,对中国科学事业的发展作出了重要贡献。袁翰青教授爱憎分明,富有强烈的正义感和天国主义精神,为国家的解放和建设做了许多有益的工作。他一贯严于律己、关怀后学、乐于助人,是一位德高望重的深受人们尊敬的科学家。
Professor Yuan Hanqing, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a famous organic chemist and historian of chemistry in China.
