There are cultural and industrial barriers between scientists and journalists. These barriers prevent science from being effectively disseminated through the media. The way to overcome this difficulty is to train scientists in media skills. The article describes an effective 12-year training method in Australia demonstrating how these workshops break the barriers between scientists and journalists and ensure that scientific information is effectively disseminated through the media to public. The method has been successfully applied in other countries, including South Africa, New Zealand and the Philippines.
