The experimental animals and conditions were the same as those in the light microscope observation. Electron microscopy: Swelling of the microvascular endothelial cells and mitochondrial damage were observed 5 to 10 minutes after photosensitization, vacuoles in the axons and Schwann cells in the distally branched nerve fibers, and mitochondria in the fibroblasts were swollen and roughened.
