Plasmodium infection produces anti-Plasmodium antibodies, but the number and location of antigens that induce these antibody responses and their characteristics remain unclear. In the past it was also difficult to identify and isolate individual Plasmodium antigens and to assess their effect on immunity. The current application of hybridoma technology makes it possible to generate large numbers of monoclonal antibodies to a single Plasmodium antigenic determinant and to identify and finally purify the Plasmodium antigen. In this paper, we report the species-specificity, period specificity, and serum cross-reactive antigens of rodents P. yoelii using 18 hybridoma cell lines.
