Launch of Nokia 6
Nokia is no longer the company that rose to prominence with its old feature phones, though it still makes telecom equipment and other consumer gadgets. But since Microsoft sold Nokia off, the rights to make Nokia-branded phones belong to HMD, another Chinese tech company.
Nokia is back with its first new smart phone. The legendary Finnish phone maker has revealed the Nokia 6 - the first device featuring its brand since it announced a triumphant return last year.
New Nokia 6 smart phone is the first new device to feature the iconic brand in nearly a year, and comes packing Android Nougat and a powerful camera.
Nokia has partnered with HMD Global for the Nokia 6 launch, however there’s bad news for any European customers looking to get their hands on the new device.
That’s because the Nokia 6 will only go on sale, at least for the time being, in China, after HMD Global signed an exclusive deal to sell the device through online giant JD.com.
The Nokia 6 will cost 1699 Yuan, or just under £200, when it goes on sale later this year.
However there was no news of when any other countries, including the UK or USA, could expect the new handset.
HMD says it is instead hoping to strike a blow into the potentially lucrative Chinese device market, where there are currently over 500 million potential customers.
HMD Global has big hopes for the Nokia 6, describing the device on its website as offering, “quality, superior craftsmanship and relentless focus on the consumers experience.”
The phone comes with a 5.5in FullHD Gorilla Glass 2.5D display, and an all-metal body that looks rather smooth and stylish.
Android 7.0 Nougat
It will also come running Android Nougat, putting Nokia ahead of many other competitors in getting Google’s latest software into its top devices.
Android Nougat boasts a number of new features, including the ability to run two apps side-by-side, better battery life and improved encryption for personal data.
Inside, however, the hardware appears a little lacking when compared to some of the other flagship devices on the market today, with the Nokia 6 packing a Snapdragon 430 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage.
There’s better news for camera fans, however, with the Nokia 6 coming with an 16MP rear camera and 8MP front lens. Nokia’s return to the smart phone market had been rumoured for some time following the collapse of its relationship with Microsoft.
In recent month, the company began selling basic handsets through its website, including the £20 Nokia 150 ‘dumb phone’.
Nokia has also confirmed that it is working on several new smart phones powered by Google’s Android software, with the Nokia 6 apparently the first of these.
Other devices are likely to be revealed that the MWC (Mobile World Congress) show in 2017, with Nokia also set to announce an expansion of its virtual reality products, as well as the launch of a ’Digital Health’ product, most likely a wearable device, and an expansion in its mobile and smart car patents.
New Nokia Phones Come One Step Closer to MWC 2017 Release
Nokia is reportedly set to launch several new Android-powered smart phones at Mobile World Congress 2017.
Two new Nokia Android smart phones appear in Russia as excitement continues to build ahead of Mobile World Congress release.
Nokia phone fans could be getting their first look at the company’s new smart phones earlier than thought after information on more handsets were leaked online.
Official certification for two new Nokia devices has been revealed from Russia, signalling that the company is set to expand its European phone family sooner than thought.
This means that Nokia could be planning the launch of multiple new handsets within the next few weeks.
The documents concern two new devices, listed as the TA-1008 and TA-1030, both of which passed Russian tests.
This information, revealed by Russian site Mobiltelefon.ru, is in line with past Nokia releases, as the previous Nokia 6 handset was passed through certification as the TA-1003.
There’s little other information hidden in the document, other than that the category of the certification means both new devices are classed as feature phones.
Nokia’s global partner HMD Global is also listed as the vendor for the new products, which would appear to confirm that the devices are legitimate.
Alongside an entry-level Nokia Heart smart phone, the company is apparently set to launch its most powerful smart phone to date.
The Nokia P1 will reportedly sport an all-metal body that is curved at the corners, similar to many leading Android devices around today.
Below this is a physical home button with an embedded fingerprint sensor for speedy locking and unlocking, and will run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, making it the first Nokia device to do so. As for cameras, the device will sport a Carl Zeiss-made 22.6MP rear camera, which would be one of the most powerful lenses around today.
Inside, the Nokia P1 is set to be the company’s most powerful device to date, sporting a Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB of RAM and 256GB storage - all powered by a huge 3,500mAh battery.
New Super-sized Nokia Tablet Device
Reports have also suggested that a new super-sized Nokia tablet device could also be set for launch soon.
According to the specification notes the as-yet-unnamed device sports a 18.4in touchscreen with a 2560x1440 UHD display. Inside, there’s a majorly powerful oct-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
Interestingly, the device reportedly runs a tweaked version of Android 7.0 Nougat, with the spec sheet noting a‘Android FIH Edition’.
There’s also a 12MP rear camera that is able to capture UltraHD 4K video, and comes with autofocus and touch focus features, twinned with a 12MP front lens with the same capability.
The device also comes with Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and Wi-Fi LTE connectivity.
