The rapidly increasing global crop demand due to world population growth and changes in diet,combined with the challenges imposed on crop production due to global climate change are highlighting the urgency for improving both crop yield and quality.Epigenetics can provide novel directions to drive plant breeding strategies and is rapidly gaining its place among mode crop breeding approaches.Here we discuss the necessity of including epigenetic diversity in crop breeding programs,as visualized in Figure 1.
