Aquaculture has had little positive or sometimes no effect on biological diversity, but usually has some negative impact. The impacts include: resource depletion, such as depletion of land (or space), water, seedlings and feed; deep processing of aquatic products; waste generation (unguarded food, excreta, chemicals, microbes, parasites and wild Breeding organisms). Negative impacts can be direct, such as the introduction of exotic genetic material, or indirect, such as loss of habitat and niche. The conclusion is that the key issue in deciding whether a method of producing aquaculture food is acceptable is the scale and intensity of resource use and the net production of waste. It is also believed that there is a need to conserve biodiversity from the perspective of aquaculturists.
