British RFS Engineering Co., Ltd. introduced an improved Steelman industrial locomotive. The first new generation locomotive is currently being used at Conoco Petroleum’s Yorkshire refinery. The locomotive’s power unit is a 360kW Perkins diesel engine and incorporates a new dry fire protection system. When the Steelman series was introduced in 1968, it set several new standards for industrial locomotive design. This locomotive is characterized by: the use of shaft drive, rubber suspension and disc brake. These features have been further improved on the recently launched Type C Steelman locomotive. Shaft suspension now includes coil springs and rotating rubber ring guide instead of herringbone rubber.
