To meet the demand for heavy-duty locomotive diesel engines in North America and developing countries, a new type of diesel engine has been designed. Through a comprehensive analysis of the needs of the international market in the future, a technical requirement has been drawn up to guide the design improvement of the diesel engine. Many target values have been identified for basic parameters, including diesel efficiency, initial and further developed power values, diesel engine weight and installation dimensions, durability and serviceability. This article describes the structure, design details, and the efficient use of computer analysis techniques to improve the performance of crankshafts, cylinder blocks and other major components. In addition, the machine draws on years of experience with existing locomotive diesel engines to ensure the reliability of many new components. For many parts are provided with design details, and describes the design principles.
