The Cambrian of Australia is concentrated in a north-south distribution from northern Australia and central China to the South Australia craton. A small amount of Cambrian strata are distributed in New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. The bottom of the Cambrian system is best exposed in the Amadeus basin of Central Australia. The Lower Cambrian (roughly equivalent to the Newfoundland and the second system) are mostly fossil-free volcanic rocks in northern Australia, and among the most abundant of the basins in Central Australia and South Australia are Arrowie and Stansbury in South Australia The basin is a series of fossil-rich sedimentary sequences. There is no hierarchical scheme for the Lower Cambrian in Australia. Although great advances have recently been made in the study of biostratigraphy, it is now possible to use the predominant species, trace fossils, ancient cups, trilobites, brachiopods, molluscs and other small shells Fossils for the division of fossil zones.
