目前,在太平洋地区各类卫星上共有350个转发器在为该地区提供服务,但该地区实际需要的转发器的数量为400～450个。供需之间存在着很大差异,因而吸引了众多的卫星经营者在该地区竞相从事卫星经营活动。 总部设在香港的亚洲卫星公司(Asiasat)已有一颗卫星在轨运行。该公司计划于1995年发射第二颗卫星,在90年代中期还要发射另外5～8颗新卫星。到那时,该公司将可以比现在多提供200～350个转发器。
Currently there are 350 transponders on all types of satellites in the Pacific serving the area, but the actual number of transponders needed in the area is 400-450. There is a big difference between supply and demand, which has attracted many satellite operators competing in satellite operations in the area. Asiasat, headquartered in Hong Kong, already has a satellite in orbit. The company plans to launch a second satellite in 1995 and launch another 5 to 8 new satellites in the mid-1990s. By that time, the company will be able to offer 200-350 transponders more than it does today.
