红旗渠动工于1960年,勤劳勇敢的林县人民,苦战十个春秋,仅仅靠着一锤,一铲,两只手,在太行山悬崖峭壁上修成了一条全长1500公里的红旗渠,工程历时近十年。该工程共削平了1250座山头,架设151座渡槽,开凿211个隧洞,修建各种建筑物12408座,挖砌土石达2225万立方米,红旗渠总干渠全长70.6公里,是毛泽东时代林县人民发扬“自力更生,艰苦创业、自强不息、开拓创新、团结协作、无私奉献”精神创造的一大奇迹,1960年,毛主席多次指示必须大兴水利,给后来林县人民开凿红旗渠奠定了基础。周总理生前对红旗渠的建设倾注了很多心血。他曾自豪地告诉国际友人:“新中国有两大奇迹,一个是南京长江大桥,一个是林县红旗渠。”1974年,新中国参加联合国大会时,放映的第一部电影就是纪录片《红旗渠》。艰苦创业的红旗渠精神已经成为中国人民伟大民族精神的象征。在改革开放的今天,我们仍要学习和发扬红旗渠精神。因为红旗渠精神继承和弘扬了中华民族勤劳坚韧的优良传统,体现了当代中国人的理想信念和不懈追求。今天的红旗渠,已不是单纯的一项水利工程,它已成为民族精神的一个象征。

In the reform and opening up today, we still have to study and carry forward the spirit of Hongqi canal. Because the spirit of Hongqi canal inherits and carries forward the fine tradition of the industriousness and diligence of the Chinese nation, it reflects the ideal and faith of today’s Chinese and their unswerving pursuit. The red flag channel today is no longer simply a water conservancy project; it has become a symbol of the national spirit.
