Dutch scholar Teun A. van Dijk is an important figure in contemporary linguistics. Particularly striking is that nearly two decades of discourse linguistics as the forefront of linguistics have taken place and van Dijk has been one of the most active scholars in the discipline. van Dijk A Protestant worker family born in 1943 in the village near The Hague in the Netherlands. Early years respectively at Liberal University and the University of Amsterdam to study French language and literature and theoretical poetics, received a doctorate in linguistics. He later taught at the Department of Linguistics and Literature, University of Amsterdam, where he is currently professor.
