1. She mothered her brother and sister.
2. He was thumbing the pages of a book when I enterd.
3. In 1999,new buildings mushroomed everywhere in China.
4. At the foot of the hill the path forked.(事物:食具)在山脚下小径分岔了。
5. Chairman Mao’s poems are the most brilliant poems ever penned in the Chinese language.(事物:文具)毛主席诗词是用中文写成的最光辉的诗篇。
6. Spies were dogging his steps then.(动物名词)那时特务在跟踪他。
7. The day was just dawning.(时间名词)天正破晓。
8. He sorrowed over the death of his comrade-in-arms.(表示心理狀态的名词)他为战友的牺牲而悲痛。
9. The apples rounded and yellowed.
10. Her hair was beginning to grey.
11. Three enemy planes were downed
12. He seconded the motion
13. A representative of the U.S was shooed down the platform.(感叹词)苏修一个代表被一片嘘声赶下讲台。
14. She responded to the Party’s call.
15. They had the same look in their eyes as others.
有的动词转成名词后,可与to get,to give, to have,to make和to take连用,表示一次动作:to get a move;to give a push (kick,sigh);to have a look(try,wash);to make a try(plunge);to take a rest(walk,drink)。
16. We saw a native’s hut.(形容词) 我们看见当地居民的一座小屋。
17. He knows the ins and outs of the question.(副词)他知道这个问题的来龙去脉。
18. There is 110 if in the case.(连词)这里没有假定的余地。
19. A hush fell upon the assembly.(感叹词)会场一片寂静。
20. We would sleep out on fine nights and hotel it and inn it,and pub it when it was wet.
21. The draper’s shop would not only dress you;post—office you;linoleum you, rug and wall-paper you;ink, pencil and note-paper you;but would also bury you and tombstone you .
22. Comrade what’s his name has come to see you just now.
23. I’m tired of your“what’s that”.
24. If yon go“How old are youing ’ to anyone you meet, you’ll certainly be tiresome to others.
25. All this“How are youing”is not necessary.
26. The boy sat there, wearing an “if-only-I-had-a-real-gun” expression on his face.
例如在名词转成动词时,to shell a walnut是“剥去核桃壳”,而to shell a town 则作“轰炸城镇”解;在to weed a garden中,to weed是“锄草”,但在to grass cattle中,to grass却是“饲以草”的意思。 转化名词可以表示一次动作:to pay a visit(作一次访问);也可以表示作出原始动词动作的人:help(佣人);还可表示原始动词所表示行为的对象:exhibit(展品),find(发现物)等等。
