Interview Preparation – 1
David: I’ve heard you’re applying for a job over at that new foreign enterprise. Is it true?
Lisa: Well, I’m thinking about it. But there are so many people applying for the job and when I think about the interview … ah, I just get so nervous.
David: I can understand that. But you have to keep in mind one important point.
Lisa: What’s that?
David: An interview at a foreign enterprise is the same as an interview with a local company.
Lisa: Oh, that’s easy to say. But they seem to have higher standards … and sometimes they want you to speak English. It seems quite different to me.
David: And maybe that’s the problem! You seem to have a mindset that you will not pass the interview. I think the key is getting the right viewpoint towards the interview.
Lisa: You mean be more positive?
David: Exactly! True, interviews are not the easiest but it doesn’t do any good to worry about it. If you do your best, then you should be happy. With that attitude, it will probably go a lot smoother.
Lisa: Mm … let me think about this …

David: Right. For example, if you want a job as a secretary, you want to dress like a secretary should … probably something dignified.
Lisa: Oh I see. In that case, since I act as an ambassador, I want to play the part of an ambassador.
David: You got it. The same goes with make-up. I see many girls with strange looking make-up. As an employee, you have to remember that you represent the company.
Lisa: It sounds reasonable. But where can I find out how to dress and what make-up to wear? I don’t have a lot of experience.
David: Well, I’m not an expert! Ha-ha! But I have seen women’s magazines that offer hints. And I’m sure there are stores that offer advice on what to do.

David: First, I’ve seen many interviewees arrive late for the interview. That simply gives the wrong impression to the boss. So make sure you find out where the interview is and plan to arrive early. Traffic is not an excuse.
Lisa: That makes sense. I’ll also feel relaxed when I arrive.
David: Good. And then, I think getting a good night’s sleep is most important.
Lisa: Why?
David: The best way to handle questions during an interview is to have a clear mind. Otherwise, questions that might be easily understood will be difficult. And that is especially so if the interview includes English.
Lisa: Ok, I’ll do my best. But I have a question … what if I get nervous during the interview?
David: Well, that can happen to all of us. In that case, take your time and settle down. Don’t be in a hurry. If you keep calm, your interview will be better.
