Objective To investigate the differential expression of hemoglobin α (Hb-α) and hemoglobin β (Hb-β) in the serum of ovarian cancer patients. Methods From October 2007 to April 2008, 21 cases of serous papillary cystadenocarcinoma were diagnosed in Department of Gynecology, the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University and confirmed by postoperative pathology. Twenty-one patients were randomized to receive venous blood before surgery 10 cases of ovarian cancer patients with stage Ⅲ breast cancer after chemotherapy before the first 10 cases of venous blood, a total of 31 cases of serum samples for the study group. Take the same conditions, 20 cases of normal serum, ovarian benign epithelial tumors in 30 cases as a control. The serum concentrations of Hb-α and Hb-β in normal human ovarian benign epithelial tumor, ovarian cystadenocarcinoma and 10 randomly selected patients with stage Ⅲ ovarian neoplasm were detected by ELISA. Results The levels of Hb-α and Hb-β were significantly higher in ovarian cancer patients than those in ovarian cancer (37.05 ± 1.11) μg / L and (86.79 ± 2.31), respectively (18.73 ± 1.03 μg / L and 71.86 ± 2.41 μg / ) in the ovarian benign epithelial tumor group (18.10 ± 1.01) μg / L, (71.28 ± 2.22) μg / L compared with the ovarian cystadenoma group, P <0.05; (P> 0.05). The mean difference of the concentrations of Hb-α and Hb-β in 73 patients with ovarian primary breast cancer before and after operation was 73.1μg / L and 37.5μg / L respectively > 0.05. Conclusion Serum levels of Hb-α and Hb-β are correlated with ovarian cancer. The serum Hb-α and Hb-β concentrations in ovarian stage Ⅲ breast cancer patients have no significant difference between the two groups.
