与同样性能的通常的行波管相比较,印制行波管提供了这样的希望:管子造价降低一个数量级的幅度。造价低是由于需要的机械加工零件比较少和结构简单。印制行波管的制造技术完全不同于通常的行波管。电路被印刷在作为管子真空外壳的陶瓷基片上。唯一的非印刷元件是阴极,它是一个直接加热的长条状发射体。磁铁或是由磁性瓷片作成,或是由浸渍了磁性材料的塑料(impregnated plastic)片作成电气性能上,印制行波管达到了行波管理论所预示的性能。
Compared with the usual traveling wave tube of the same performance, the printed traveling wave tube offers the hope that the cost of the tube is reduced by an order of magnitude. Low cost is due to the need for less machined parts and simple structure. Printed traveling wave tube manufacturing technology is completely different from the usual traveling wave tube. The circuit is printed on a ceramic substrate as a tube vacuum envelope. The only non-printing element is the cathode, which is a directly heated strip-shaped emitter. The magnets are either made of magnetic ceramic or impregnated with an impregnated plastic sheet. The printed traveling wave tube achieves the performance predicted by traveling wave tube theory.
