Hypothalamic Corticotropin Releasing Factor (CRF) strongly stimulates the secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) in the anterior pituitary gland. Recently, histochemical methods have shown the presence of CRF-immunoreactive fibers in the pituitary stalk and posterior pituitary. There are experiments show that CRF also affects the release of pituitary peptides. These results suggest that CRF may play a role in the posterior and medial pituitary gland.
