Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is becoming a serious public health problem worldwide and is one of the most important risk factors known for cardiovascular disease. The cardiovascular disease itself can also lead to a marked increase in the incidence and mortality of CKD. Evidence indicates that insufficient physical activity is an important and independent risk factor for accelerated renal dysfunction in CKD patients at all stages, as well as a decline in physiological function, cardiovascular function and quality of life. Specific studies of CKD as well as studies in other metabolic diseases of the heart provide strong evidence of the health benefits of routine and adequate physical activity (PA).
