All-nitrogen compounds are excellent candidates for energetic compounds for high-performance solid propellants. Their high energy sources are derived from the N-N single bond, between the N ==== N double bond and the nitrogen molecule (N≡≡N triple bond) Huge energy difference. Although both all-anion and all-cation have been successfully synthesized, the synthesis of their compounds has not been successful. The successful synthesis of nitrogen cluster compounds can be attributed to the stabilization of nitrogen clusters by carbon nanotubes and C60. Polymeric nitrogen has been synthesized under high temperature and pressure, but they are not stable at room temperature and pressure. The research progress of three kinds of total nitrogen compounds is reviewed.
