This paper describes in detail the establishment of a high-speed buffer memory for the Type 85 storage system, which represents the basic structure of the Type-85 and Type-360 systems. The structure and operation of the cache are discussed, including the positioning and recovery techniques required by the central processing unit. Describes a study to determine the internal performance of a cache memory using a comparison of the performance of the selected architecture and a theoretical system with 80 nanoseconds main memory. Finally, the results of altering the cache parameters are discussed and graphically shown.
