Scientists at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, studied a bacterium called “Delfina” in gold solution. They observed a black ring around the bacteria Material, after identification, this black material is gold nanoparticles. This is a manifestation of the bacterial defense mechanism that gold ions are toxic to Delft’s acid-fast bacteria, so bacteria convert gold ions into gold nanoparticles, preventing them from entering the cell wall.
