The complete genome sequence of the group A Neisseria meningitidis strain Z2491 has been jointly determined by the Sanger Center in Cambridge, England, a research institute in Berlin, Germany, and an experimental center in Oxford, England. This sequence is 2184 to 406 bp in length and contains 2121 predictable coding sequences. The sequence consists of hundreds of repeats, some of which exist alone, while others exist as larger complexes. It appears that these repeats are mostly associated with polymorphisms and antigenic variation in the strain. Helps bacteria escape the body’s immune response. The analysis of the occurrence of these repetitive sequences suggests that the gene polymorphism is responsible for the variation of bacterial antigens. In this study, the majority of shorter repeats were straight
