In this article, 170 suicides were taken from the Emergency Department of Nanyuan Hospital, Fengtai Hospital and Changxindian Hospital in Fengtai District of Beijing from January 1996 to July 1999. (These included those who took poison and swallowed foreign bodies by mistake and excluded them. There are 40 persons with a history of definite mental illness.
