宋、元两个朝代的“说话”技艺在明朝依旧广为流传并由口头文学逐渐演变为书面文字,即话本、拟话本小说,这些作品所塑造的人物往往是一个时代最真实的写照。明代话本小说的高峰——“三言”、“二拍”作为在中国古代小说史上有重要影响的作品,体现了晚明时期,随商品经济萌芽应运而生的早期启蒙主义思潮,展现了晚明时期新思潮市民阶级思想意识的变革,其中最突出的就是女性意识的觉醒,作品中塑造出不同类型的女性,展现了她们敢于打破传统伦理道德的束缚,追求独立自主的生活方式,然而这种强大的觉醒力也存在明显的局限性,在当时社会大背景下缺乏独立生存的力量。
