Shanghai’s first tramcar was officially opened to traffic in 1908, opening the prelude to Shanghai’s modern city public transport. In the early days of the liberation, there were 44 Shanghai bus routes and 934 vehicles operated. By the peak of the 1990s, there were 408 bus lines, 6562 vehicles operated and 5 billion passengers per year. At present, Shanghai enjoys a good orbit but thousands of buses and trams are still one of the major modes of transport in Shanghai.
