Priestess is the third novel by Margaret Atwood, a famous Canadian writer. First published in 1976. The novel alternately describes the past and the present, with a first person recounting how the gothic romance novelist Joan escapes for surviving stories. By describing the hero’s seemingly absurd but helpless life experience, the novel shows the confusion, confusion, pain and struggle of modern women who are alienated from male civilization. By analyzing the living conditions of the heroine in self-splitting and multiple self-coexistence under the gaze of others, this thesis studies the survival strategies of the heroine’s escape into the romantic fantasy world in the novel.
