由于汽油能够很容易溶解油脂(如猪油、牛油、豆油、蓖麻油等)。因此当我們的衣服被油脂染污了的时候,很自然地可以用汽油来擦洗。用汽油来擦洗衣服上的油污,汽油就把油污溶解了。这时候再复上吸墨水紙(或其他容易吸水的紙),用熨斗一燙,吸墨水紙就把溶解了的污物吸去和蒸發掉。这样衣服就清潔了。同样,汽油还可以除去衣服上沾染的漆斑和肉汁。油污所以不容易用肥皂洗去,而容易被汽油洗去,是因为它不能在水中溶解,而能在汽油中溶解的原故。
